I’ve been thinking about PR recently, not PR as in Public Relations, but PR as in PageRank, that “magical little figure” between 1 and 10 that Google calculates and uses to determine the importance of a web page. It’s one of many factors used to determine which pages appear in search results.

This may surprise you, on average, one in every three people we know either has a disability or has a close relative or friend who is. Regretfully, a lot of people associate disability with wheelchair users, people who require carers, or those unable, or assumed to be unable, to do things. All these are wrong. A vast majority of people with disabilities are like my mother. They work and they do things that people without disabilities do. Now how does that relate to you?

If we are to create a situation where both usability and accessibility permeate through the web we need to create far more awareness. We need to focus on education in order to create a position where the first thing a new website owner asks is “what’s the usability and accessibility?” rather than “what’s the design?”
